Children's Tuesday: A Piece of Silver: A Christmas Story

Newly published, A Piece of Silver: A Christmas Story features a beautiful narrative as well as beautiful artwork. Written by author Clark Burbidge (Life on the Narrow Path) and illustrated by stellar artist Annie Henrie, A Piece of Silver is a masterpiece for Christmastime and anytime (because, you know, so is Christ).

I was able to meet Clark Burbidge this past Saturday at the Orem Pkwy Deseret Book. Just from speaking with him for a few minutes, a person can tell that he truly puts his heart into his writing. And then of course, when you read his writing, you know his heart is in it. (Watch the book video further down to get a feel for this).
I imagine Annie Henrie is no different with her artwork. Just look at some of the the pictures from this story at the end of this post! A Piece of Silver has 17 illustrations, 8 paintings, and 9 charcoal drawings by Annie. I have yet to meet her, but I'm planning on it for the (hopefully) not-too-distant-future (she has been at several events featuring gospel artists). Please see Sunday's post for a recap of my visit with Clark, including a tiny bit about his next project.

Two thousand years ago in Bethlehem, a young homeless boy named Daniel finds shelter in a stable and witnesses the birth of the Savior. Wanting to present the child with something, he gives the baby his only possession—a silver ring he wears on a piece of twine around his neck. But Daniel’s life remains one of living on the fringe of society until, in his darkest and loneliest moment, he again meets the Savior.

This powerful story provides a unique perspective of the birth and death of Jesus through the eyes and heart of a desolate young man. Infused with wonder and awe, this story is one of unconditional love and endless hope.
Please watch this well-made author interview/book trailer of A Piece of Silver.
