Elk Shakes - The Real Man's Protein Drink

I promised I'd put the recipes up for the books and foods featured in the Book Buffet Mini-challenge I hosted for Utah Book Month back in August. Here's a doozy to get you beefed up for the upcoming winter months.

KJ Carson, the teen protagonist of Kristen Chandler's contemporary YA novel, Wolves, Boys, & Other Things That Might Kill Me, made an annotated recipe book for a class project entitled "Twenty Five Uses for Left Over Elk Meat". Her teacher's favorite recipe was Elk Shakes - The Real Man's Protein Drink. KJ and her dad live in West End, Montana, right next to Yellowstone National Park, so elk meat, and it's leftovers, are very common. The recipe below also features other meats one might find in that area. And you know, shake, smoothie, they're pretty much the same thing.
For more about Kristen Chandler and her books, especially Wolves, please read my previous post or check out the links below.
